Sutton in school! Gosh, has this been a transition. Honestly, don’t judge me now, but I’ve always been the type that gets up when my kids do. Terrible quality. So getting up at 6:30 every day has been something. I don’t hate it as much as I thought I would, but it’s tough some days. Still, good for me! I hope I can be like this forever lol.
She’s had a hard time at drop off. It’s loud, and all of the kids eat breakfast together in the cafeteria, which she doesn’t love. But she has a best friend now, so it’s super sweet to see them interact! Every day she comes home saying she had the best day and loves it, so I know it’s going well. I honestly just wish it was a few less days a week… remember, she goes FIVE DAYS A WEEK!! But anywhootie.
Mary-Ann and Wanda (our goats) have a new home in the making. We’ve always wanted a fenced-in area over by our barn and now is the time. We’ve learned Wanda can get out of pretty much anything Max tries over by the chicken coop, so it’s time to start fresh. Plus, we learned goats aren’t supposed to have chicken feed, which is really hard to keep out when they’re together. So here we go! It’s been hard to find time and daylight hours to get it done, but it’s coming along. It’ll be so nice once it’s finished.
I tried not to be too picky on style (Max would probably disagree), but I TRIED. Lol. And something that keeps goats in is kinda hard to come by. So we’re doing a standard wooden 3–4 rail fence with some wire in between to make sure the goats stay in. We actually finished phase 1 — the posts and wire — and so far so good! They stayed in the entire weekend while we went camping! YAY! Now when will we find time to do the rails? I don’t know. I also want to stain it and add some landscaping to spruce it up a bit. And, of course, this leads to a strong desire to paint the entire barn. LOL. Maybe next year. Stay tuned for updates.
We got to go camping again this month! YAY! We love our time getting to camp. We visited a friend in Ogallala, so we hauled our camper and stayed at Lake Ogallala, right next to Lake McConaughy! It was short but the weather was beautiful, so definitely worth it. And then we even got to go again this past weekend to Mahoney State Park. It had been like 10 years since I’d been, so it was nice to experience it again. It was a little less busy than summer, but still actually very busy! Super fun, though, and we’ll definitely go back. We’re starting to think about colder weather coming, and I’m already nervous about mice getting into our camper. If anyone has any recommendations for keeping them out, PLEASE HELP. We had major issues last year and didn’t have all the access points covered. I’m nervous we won’t even be able to find all the places they can get in. It only takes a hole the size of a dime, doesn’t it?! That’s tough!! We actually have one more camping trip planned in October that’s becoming an annual thing. It’ll most likely be chilly, but we’re excited.
The kids’ room is still in the works. I’ve painted the floors, which is bound to be very controversial. I’ve lived with them so beat up and dark for 3 years, and I finally decided to paint them for now. They’re wide plank pine, and I do not want to refinish them myself. It’s just one of those things I know is so delicate and takes so much skill. I’d personally like to hire it out, but we just can’t afford it right now. We have so many other priorities (honestly, redoing the main floors is probably higher on the list). So, to make myself happy, I’m painting them. My mother-in-law has her bedroom floors painted in her 1900s farmhouse and I think it’s super cute. Would I prefer beautiful natural wood? Yes. But will I like this more than what they are now? Also yes. That’s my reasoning. Other rooms up here may get painted too. Who knows, maybe I’ll try a different method to see if I can spruce up the wood. But they’re darker in general than I’d prefer, so who knows what I’ll decide.
I also removed the old wallpaper. I truly did like it, but it felt a little sad beige for them. The new wallpaper and colors are more child-like but still can grow with them! I’m literally splitting the room in half — one half pink with a white and pink wallpaper, and the other side blue with a duck wallpaper. It might be super weird, but hey, I’m super weird so why not. I can ALWAYS change it. Nothing is permanent. I’m super excited, and Sutton has already picked her side entirely, which I love. Stay tuned!
Lastly, I’m hosting the 2nd annual Fall Girls’ Night at my house this weekend. I’m super excited for it. I’m actually working with Samuel Adams on it, so my friends get to be a part of it and see my work. Kinda exciting, kinda embarrassing. But I’m pumped. Sure to be a good time!
October is sure to be a fun month, and hopefully we get to hit up the pumpkin patch, go camping again, and finish the kids’ room. Stay tuned! Hopefully I can get these out earlier than this next month lol.
Tata for now!

I love this format and I love hearing about your updates. Always enjoy watching you make things pretty and making us laugh. The kids are so dang cute. Love the 1/2 1/2 room!
Karen Mettler summer it up.
I love there are no annoying ads popping up all the time. I do hope your goats stay in. My grandson put up cattle panels for his fence. High enough they could not climb or jump over. Cannot wait to see the kiddos bedroom ♥️♥️
For keeping rodents out of the trailer, of course closing entry points is ideal, but some good deterrents are:
– removing any unnecessary linens (towels, sheets, blankets, clothing, etc.) when not in use to limit the inviting bedding materials
– put out a bunch of cotton balls with peppermint oil on them (we do open ziploc bags so they’re easy to pick up when we use the trailer
– dryer sheets placed throughout.
If you know of some entry points putting the peppermint oil and dryer sheets directly in front of them would be best. Traps (even live ones) would be a good idea to prevent breeding inside the trailer if they do get in
